DJ LeMahieu Contract, Salary and Net Worth

DJ LeMahieu

If D.J. had a successful year in 2019, 2020 was out of this world. Despite the limited number of games, his rate stats were all exceptional: his batting average of .364 was the highest in the majors and made him only the second player after Ed Delahanty, over a century earlier, to have won a batting title in both leagues

His OPB of.421 led the American League and was also a personal best; his slugging percentage was .590, 6th in the league, and he also led the AL in hits New Yankee Stadium’s short right-field line provided him with a unique edge, making it difficult for opposing teams to shift their defenses in his direction.

He was among a tiny handful of batters against whom a defensive shift was not necessary. After sweeping the Cleveland Indians in the Wild Card Series, the Yankees were ousted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the Division Series.

There were no extra-base hits for him in the seven games, but he did score four runs and drive in four more. Even though there were other teams interested in signing him, the Yankees made it obvious that re-signing him was a priority following the season.

As of January 15th, the Bronx Bombers and D.J. were close to signing a new contract worth $90 million over the course of six seasons.

It’s hard to argue that he doesn’t fit the mold of a middle infielder from another time period, given his batting line that’s strong in batting average but low in extra-base hits and walks, and good fielding.

However, players of this type are often short, but LeMahieu stands at 6’4″ and is one of the tallest players to have regularly played second base in the majors.
