Yan Gomes is a professional baseball player of Brazilian descent who is part of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He plays the position of a catcher for the Cubs and has been with them since December 2021.



Yan was born to Claudia and Décio on July 19, 1987, in Brazil. Gomes played baseball in high school at the Miami Southridge High School in Miami, Florida. After he completed high school, he went on to play college baseball for the Tennessee Volunteers in the Southeastern Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division at the University of Tennessee.

In 2008, the Boston Red Sox team drafted him in the 39th round of the 2008 MLB draft whiles he was still in college. He did not sign with them and rather got a transfer from the University of Tennessee to Barry University, where he continued to play baseball for the Barry Buccaneers.



In 2009, the Toronto Blue Jays drafted him in the tenth round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He agreed to play for them and was signed unto the team. He made his MLB debut with the Jays in May 2012 and in December 2021, he signed a two-year contract with a club option for the 2024 baseball season with the Chicago Cubs.

Yan Gomes has three children, two sons and a daughter with wife, Jenna Hammaker. Their first child, a daughter, was born in 2014. In 2017, they had their second child, a son. Their third born, a son was born in 2021.
