Cionel Perez, born as Cionel Félix Pérez Viera is a professional baseball player of Cuban descent who plays for the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. Cionel is known to have previously played two seasons for Matanzas of the Cuban National Series.
The Houston Astros baseball team signed Cionel in 2016 on a contract worth $5.15 million. He was signed as an international free agent but the contract was annulled in October in December that same year, a new contract was signed.
Cionel made his professional debut in 2017 whiles playing for the Quad Cities River Bandits. He was later on promoted to the Buies Creek Astros and Corpus Christi Hooks. He was also added to the Astros 40-man roster for the 2017 season.
Cionel made his MLB debut on July 11,,2018 for the Astros. For the 2019 baseball season, he played for the GCL Astros, Fayetteville Woodpeckers, and the Round Rock Express. In 2020, Cionel made 7 appearances and recorded a 2.84 ERA with 8 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
The Astros traded Cionel in January 2021 to the Cincinnati Reds team. He played for the Reds for some months till the Baltimore Orioles claimed him in November 2021.
