Dominican Republic pitcher, Brailyn Marquez was born on January 30, 1999, in Santo Domingo, Marquez made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs on September 27, 2020, at the age of 21.
In August 2015, Márquez signed as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs. He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Cubs, going 4–2 with a 1.48 ERA in 12 starts.
Márquez pitched for the Arizona League Cubs in 2017, going 2–1 with a 5.52 ERA in 11 games (nine starts), then for the Eugene Emeralds and South Bend Cubs in 2018, going 1–4 with a 3.13 ERA in 12 outings.
Márquez started the season with the South Bend Cubs before being promoted to Myrtle Beach. In 22 starts for the two organizations, he went 9–5 with a 3.13 ERA, striking out 128 hitters in 103+23 innings.
Márquez was added to the Cubs’ 40-man and active rosters on September 27, 2020. That night, he made his MLB debut, pitching a third of an inning of relief against the Chicago White Sox.
Márquez missed a development season in 2021 due to a delayed spring training, a COVID-19 infection, and a left shoulder injury.
