James McCann is an American born baseball player known to play as a catcher for the New York Mets baseball team of the Major League Baseball(MLB). James had his non-professional baseball career at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California and the University of Arkansas.
In 2011, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 2011 MLB draft. He was the first to be selected by the Tigers in the draft. He signed with them and made his professional debut that season with the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
During the 2012 minor league season, the Tigers invited him to join their spring training after which he began the season playing for the Lakeland Tigers of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. He was promoted to the Erie SeaWolves of the Class AA Eastern League that year.
James made his MLB debut on September 1, 2014, for the tigers. He signed a four-year contract with the New York Mets in December 2020. The contract is worth $40.6 million.
