Jacob’s grandfather, Frank Amaya was also a baseball player in the 1950s where he played as a shortstop with the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. His grandfather spent three years in the Class C Pioneer League where he played for the Great Falls Electrics.

Jacob started his baseball amateur career at Northview High School in Covina. He later transferred to South Hills High School in West Covina, California where he finally graduated. He was drafted out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB draft.

The Dodgers assigned him to play with the Arizona League Dodgers that year for him to make his professional debut. The following year, he played for both the Ogden Raptors and Great Lakes Loons.

Jacob began the 2019 season with the Loons and was later promoted to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He did not play in any game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Dodgers added him to their 40-man roster in 2021.
