Why Is Baseball On TBS?

Regular season and postseason Major League Baseball game telecasts are presented in the United States on the American pay television network TBS as Major League Baseball on TBS. Turner Sports produces the games.

Since Ted Turner purchased the team’s broadcast rights in 1973, Atlanta independent station WTBS (channel 17, now WPCH-TV; which, like TBS, was owned by Turner Broadcasting System) had been a regular local broadcast location for Atlanta Braves baseball games.

The station later rose to national prominence when it was uplinked to the satellite in December 1976, becoming one of America’s first superstations.

WTBS was one of the few television networks, along with Chicago’s WGN-TV and New York’s WWOR-TV, that carried regional athletic events to a national audience; some even dubbed the Braves “America’s Team.”

Turner Sports is turning the page to its coverage of the 2022 MLB season with a full schedule of games and top-tier talent after a great run during March Madness.

The San Diego Padres and Manny Machado visiting the San Francisco Giants, last season’s most successful team, will be the star-studded showcase for the new season-long MLB on TBS Tuesday Night series on Tuesday, April 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The seven-year rights agreement between Turner Sports and Major League Baseball will begin this season, with a season-long Tuesday night game of the week and extensive live MLB programming as its highlights covering postseason games
