Brooks is 1.88 m tall and weighs 93 kg. He was born on March 15, 1996, in Lakeland, Florida in the USA. He played high school baseball at Lakeland Christian School and high school in Lakeland, Florida after which he enrolled at Stetson University where he played college baseball for the Stetson Hatters baseball team.

During his college years, Brooks earned several recognitions including being named first-team All-ASUN as well as the ASUN Player of the Year. He also won the John Olerud Award which is an award given to the top collegiate two-way player in the nation.



Before he graduated from college in 2018, he played collegiate summer baseball for the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley Baseball League. After graduation, the Atlanta Braves team selected him in the 7th round of the 2018 MLB draft. His professional career started from there as he was assigned by the Braves to play with the Danville Braves of the Class A-Short Season Appalachian League. The Braves finally added him to their 40-man roster in November 2021.
