Robert Alexander Wood, nicknamed “A-Wood,” was born on January 12, 1991, and is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball.



He has previously played for the Atlanta Braves, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Wood played high school baseball for Ardrey Kell High School and collegiate baseball for the Georgia Bulldogs before becoming pro. In 2009, he underwent Tommy John surgery.



Wood was chosen by the Braves in the second round of the 2012 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Braves in 2013 and was an All-Star with the Dodgers in 2017. With the Dodgers, he won the World Series in 2020.

The Dodgers traded Wood, along with Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Kyle Farmer, and cash considerations, to the Cincinnati Reds on December 21, 2018, in exchange for Homer Bailey, Jeter Downs, and Josiah Gray.

Wood had a back ailment in spring training and was out for most of the season. He pitched in seven games, going 1–3 with a 5.80 ERA.

On November 25, 2017, Wood married his longtime girlfriend, a realtor, called Suzanna Villarreal, in Atlanta, Georgia. They are based in Atlanta.
