Despite being just 26 years old, Alcantara has the weight of a much older person. In spite of his meteoric rise to become one of the game’s top pitchers, he remains constant in his resolve to provide for his family.
So, as the final surviving Marlin from one of the three deals that decimated Miami, Alcantara is determined to wield his influence in the rebuilding process, and to serve as an example for the younger members of the rotation.

Sandy’s mother Francisca Montero died in July after a long battle with lung cancer. Alexander Alcantara, Alcantara’s younger brother, was killed in a motorbike accident in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2018.
Currently seven years old, Alcantara’s own son is named Yorlin Sadiel, a combination of his own name and that of his wife Yorleni, with whom he has been in a relationship since they were 13 years old.
After signing Alcantara to a five-year, $56 million contract extension, the Marlins’ future is substantially more solid.
