Kevin John Gausman (born January 6, 1991), known as “Gaus,” is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays.
He’s played for the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants in the past. Gausman attended Louisiana State University (LSU) and was an All-American pitcher for the Tigers.
He was taken in the first round (4th overall) in the 2012 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. In 2013, he made his Major League Baseball debut. In 2021, he was named to the All-Star team.
Gausman now throws four pitches: a four-seam fastball at 92–98 mph (148–158 km/h), a splitter at 82–86 mph (132–138 km/h), a slider at 80–86 mph (129–138 km/h), and a changeup at 84–88 mph (135–142 km/h), according to Statcast.
In 2020, he improved his four-seam fastball’s average velocity and spin rate (as compared to 2019) by merely bending his right leg and tucking the front foot at the level of the rear leg’s knee.
Gausman married Taylor North in December 2016 and the couple has two kids.
