Jonathan Villar, full name Jonathan Rafael Villar Roque is a professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs baseball team and plays as a second baseman for the team. He is 1.85 m tall and weighs 88 kg.



Jonathan grew up in the Dominican Republic where he was born on May 2, 1991. He had his high school and college amateur baseball career in the Dominican Republic before he was signed by The Philadelphia Phillies as an international free agent.

Jonathan was named the 94th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America in 2011. He played in the minor league in 2013 for the Oklahoma City RedHawks after he was signed by the Houston Astros. During that season,  he was named the Astros’ minor league hitter for June.



The Houston Astros promoted Jonathan to the major leagues for the very first time in July 2013. He was later traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2015. The Brewers traded him in December 2019 to the Miami Marlins baseball team.

The Toronto Blue Jays bought Jonathan’s contract from the Marlins in August 2020 and in February 2021, he signed a one-year contract worth $3.55 million with the New York Mets. The Chicago Cubs signed him into their team in March 2022.
