Wells signed with the Baltimore Orioles association as a worldwide free agent on August 29, 2015.
He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Low-An Aberdeen IronBirds, and spent the entire season there, posting a 4-5 record, 2.15 ERA, and a 0.91 WHIP.
He burned through 2017 with the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds, pitching to an 11-5 record with a 2.38 ERA in 25 games began.
Wells enjoyed the 2018 season with the High-A Frederick Keys, going 7-8 with a 3.47 ERA in 135 innings.

On November 20, 2020, Wells was added to the Orioles’ 40-man program. He was appointed to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides to start the 2021 season, where he posted a 5.63 ERA in 8 appearances.
