Zach McKinstry MLB Career

After being drafted in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB draft, McKinstry signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 8.

He was promoted to the Class-A Midwest League’s Great Lakes Loons after just four games with the Arizona League Dodgers, close to where he went to college.

For the Loons, he batted.261 in 41 games, helping the team to the league title.

For the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, he appeared in 82 games, while for the Tulsa Drillers, he appeared in 15 games. He had a batting average of .239 overall.

To begin 2018, he was demoted to the Loons, but his attitude toward the move remained positive, as evidenced by his rise in batting average and increase in walk rate.

In 2018, he appeared in only 76 games across all three levels, with a.282 batting average while on the DL.

After a strong start with Tulsa in 2019, McKinstry was named to the mid-season all-star team.

On August 3, he was promoted to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers of the Pacific Coast League after hitting.279 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 95 games for Tulsa.

He appeared in 26 games with a.382 batting average for Oklahoma City. As a result of his successful 2019 campaign, the Dodgers decided to add him to their 40-man roster.
