Jacob Robert Woodford is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in the United States.



Woodford played baseball at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, where he was teammates with Kyle Tucker.

Woodford was 7–0 with a 0.67 ERA as a senior at Plant. He has committed to play college baseball at the University of Florida.



In the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, he was selected with the 39th overall pick and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, foregoing his commitment to Florida.

Woodford began with the Gulf Coast Cardinals in 2015 and played the entire season there, going 1–0 with a 2.39 ERA in eight appearances.

In 2016, he pitched for the Peoria Chiefs, where he was selected as an All-Star in the Midwest League and had a 5–5 record with a 3.31 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 21 starts.

In 2017, he pitched for the Palm Beach Cardinals and had a 7–6 record with a 3.10 ERA in 23 games (21 starts). Woodford did not make the team for spring training in 2018.

As a Texas League All-Star in 2018, Woodford was promoted to the Memphis Redbirds during the season. He was 3–8 with a 5.22 ERA in 16 games for Springfield and 5–5 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts for Memphis.

The 2019 season saw him return to Memphis, where he was named to the Pacific Coast League’s All-Star team.

Woodford compiled a 9–8 record with a 4.15 ERA in 26 starts for Memphis, striking out 131 hitters in 151+2/3 innings. After the 2019 season, St. Louis signed Woodford to their 40-man roster.

Woodford was promoted to the top leagues on July 28, 2020.

He made his major league debut on August 15 against the Chicago White Sox, pitching three innings and allowing one earned run while striking out three batters.
