Jose Alvarado (born April 12, 1998) is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association for the New Orleans Pelicans. He was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in collegiate basketball.

Alvarado used to play football but stopped after hurting his neck. He attended Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, Queens, and played basketball there. Alvarado was selected Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 17 points and 6.5 assists per game.

In a victory over Xaverian High School on December 22, 2016, he had 18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals, the first quadruple-double in school history. Alvarado led Christ the King to the CHSAA intersectional quarterfinals as a senior, averaging 17.9 points per game. He was selected Player of the Year by the Times-Ledger.

In the 2017 recruiting class, Alvarado was rated a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals, and a three-star recruit by 247Sports.

On September 15, 2016, he chose Georgia Tech over offers from Rutgers and Seton Hall, among others, to play collegiate basketball. Josh Pastner, Georgia Tech’s head coach, first saw Alvarado in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.
