Dillon Michael Tate is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB).



He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he played collegiate baseball. Tate was drafted in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers and traded to the New York Yankees during the 2016 season.

He was sent to the Orioles at the end of the 2018 season. In 2019, he made his MLB debut. Tate graduated from Claremont High School in Claremont, California, in 2012.



He made the baseball team at his school, although he saw limited action as a freshman. After that, he began training at the Major League Baseball (MLB) Urban Youth Academy in Compton, California. He was not drafted by the MLB out of high school.

Tate attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he played collegiate baseball for the Gauchos. Tate was offered a scholarship by just two Division I programs: the Gauchos and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.

He pitched three innings in four games as a rookie and had a 9.00 earned run average (ERA). Through weight training, he increased his weight from 165 pounds (75 kg) to 200 pounds (91 kg) that summer.

He was the Gauchos’ closer as a sophomore, ending the season with a 1.45 ERA, 12 saves, and 46 strikeouts.
