Niko played for both the Fort Myers and the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Class AA Southern League in the 2015 minor league season. He was assigned in 2017 to play with the Rochester Red Wings of the Class AAA International League and was promoted that season to the major leagues on September 1 2017.

He made his MLB deon but September 2, 2017, for the Twins. He elected free agency on November 6 2017 and signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers in November that year. He signed with the Houston Astros in March 2022.
