The whole breakdown was tweeted by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. This year, DeJong will earn a $1 million signing bonus and a $1 million salary.

Following that, he’ll be paid $1.5 million in 2019 and 2020, $4 million in 2021, $6 million in 2022, and $9 million in 2023.

The first option has a $2 million buyout, while the second has a $1 million buyout.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag, DeJong will be guaranteed $26 million over a six-year contract (Twitter links).

This includes $2 million in buyouts for two club options worth $12.5 million and $15 million, respectively, according to Goold.

The $26MM guarantee on the agreement breaks Tim Anderson’s record for the greatest sum ever guaranteed to a player with less than a full year of Major League service experience (six years, $25MM).

DeJong made his major league debut last summer with minimal fanfare, but swiftly rose to prominence with a .285/.325/.532 slash line and 25 home runs in only 443 plate appearances in 108 games.

DeJong played some second base during his rookie season, but he spent the majority of it at shortstop, where he was rated as an average defender by Defensive Runs Saved and slightly above by Ultimate Zone Rating.

In total, he produced 2.7 rWAR and 3.0 fWAR in his rookie season, good enough to place him second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting behind Cody Bellinger.
