Wade began his amateur baseball career at Loranger High School where he played for the baseball team of the school. Upon completion of his high school education and career, he continued at Southeastern Louisiana University where he played college baseball for the Southeastern Louisiana Lions baseball team.
During his senior year at the University, he was named a league All-Star when he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was drafted in 2008 by the Arizona Diamondbacks during the first round of the 2008 MLB draft.
He kicks started his professional baseball career by playing with the Yakima Bears of the Class A-Short Season Northwest League. The Diamondbacks called him up to the major leagues in August 2011.
In 2914, the Diamondbacks traded him to the Boston Red Sox who in turn traded him to the Seattle Mariners a year later. The Mariners also traded him in 2016 to the Baltimore Orioles. Wade was claimed off waivers in November 2021 by the Chicago Cubs and he has been with them to date.
