Travis was born September 30, 1994, in Winder, Georgia in the USA. He started his professional career in 2013 when he was drafted out of high school by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2013 MLB. He made his professional debut playing with the Arizona League Rangers.

Travis spent the 2014 and 2015  minor league seasons playing for the Hickory Crawdads. In June 2015, Travis tested positive for Furosemide and was suspended from eighty games. While serving his suspension, he played in the Dominican Republic league and the Australian Baseball League.

After his suspension, he returned to play in the minor leagues. He was demoted to the Spokane Indians, where he finished the season. The Rangers traded him to the Atlanta Braves in 2016. Three years after playing with the Braves, they traded him to the Detroit Tigers.

Travis made his MLB debut in August 2019 for the Detroit Tigers when they played against the Texas Rangers. He was claimed off waivers in February 2021 by the Atlanta Braves.
