The St. Louis Rams selected him with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft after he played college football at North Carolina.

Quinn was a defensive end for the Fort Dorchester Patriots during his high school football career. His senior season had to be cut short due to brain surgery and he had to have a benign tumour.



Quinn recorded 54 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 21 quarterback hurries in his career prior to having surgery. He is rated as the 18th top defensive end recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, respectively.

Quinn also won the heavyweight division of the 4A wrestling state championship three times. While Quinn attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where the institution is located,

he played football for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Quinn made 13 appearances as a freshman in 2008, starting 12 of them. He recorded 34 tackles (6.5 for losses), two quarterback sacks and two forced fumbles.

He noted two quarterback hurries as well. In addition, he received the Brian Piccolo Award from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for playing with the most daring.

Quinn ranked 15th nationally with 19.0 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks in 2009 and led the ACC with 52 tackles. He was also the ACC’s leader.
