Kodi A professional pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball, James Whitley is an American citizen (MLB). 2020 was the year he made his MLB debut. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Whitley in the 27th round of the 2017 MLB draft.

On his way to an 8-4 record and 4.41 ERA in his second year, he was voted Freshman of the Year by the Mount Olive Cardinals. To avoid missing last year’s campaign, Whitley underwent Tommy John surgery at the start of the previous one.

With the Gulf Coast Cardinals and Palm Beach Cardinals, Whitley made his professional debut in 2017. 2018 saw him play for Peoria Chiefs and Springfield Cardinals before being promoted to Memphis Redbirds in July. He has a 1.60 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 67 innings in 50 bullpen appearances with three different teams.

Whitley was added to the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster on July 20, 2020. He made his major league debut on July 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium, pitching three innings of relief and striking out all three of the players he saw.

Whitley has a 2.49 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 25+13 innings in 25 bullpen appearances with the Cardinals. He was placed on the disabled list in August after testing positive for COVID-19.
