The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Andrew Vasquez from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Stevie Berman one month after the MLB trade deadline passed.
Berman and Vasquez were not on the 40-man roster at the time, thus a Minor League trade was a possibility.
Vasquez was also eligible to play in the Dodgers’ postseason because the deal was completed around 10 minutes before 12 a.m. ET on Sept. 1.
On September 2, he was promoted to the active roster and made two games before being optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on September 6.
Vasquez debuted for the Dodgers in extra innings against the San Francisco Giants, and he also featured in the series finale at Oracle Park.
He pitched a total of 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out three batters.
In late September, the southpaw was recalled, but only for a brief second spell with the Dodgers, during which he did not appear in a game.
Vasquez had a 3.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in six appearances for OKC. The Dodgers did not extend him a contract, and he became a free agent in early December.
The Kansas City Royals drafted Vasquez in the 44th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
He chose to go to college instead and was later drafted in the 32nd round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins.
Vasquez debuted in Major League Baseball with the Minnesota Twins in 2018, appearing in nine games. In five innings of action, the left-hander was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA, 3.36 FIP, and 1.40 WHIP.
Vasquez struck out two of the three batters he faced in the eighth inning against the Giants on Sept. 5, despite the fact that it was in a losing effort.
