Belt was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft following his junior year, and he signed for a signing bonus of $200,000. The outfielder in Major League Baseball began his career with the San Francisco Giants in 2011.

He began his professional career with the San Jose Giants’ High-A club, where he earned a mid-season All-Star. He worked with the Giants coaching staff to improve his swing mechanics, which allowed him to advance fast in the Giants farm system.



Brandon Belt played pitcher and outfield for Hudson High School in Hudson, Texas. The Boston Red Sox drafted Belt as a pitcher in the 11th round (343rd overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft but did not offer him the signing money that would have allowed him to forego his college commitment.

Belt enrolled at San Jacinto College in order to keep his negotiating power with Boston, but he ultimately opted not to sign. In 2007, he pitched and batted designated for the San Jacinto baseball club. The Atlanta Braves took him in the 11th round (348th overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, but he declined to sign.
