Joseph George Lucchesi is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the New York Mets (MLB). In 2018, he made his Major League Baseball debut with the San Diego Padres.

The San Diego Padres selected Joe Lucchesi in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He attended Chabot College and Southeast Missouri State University, where he played baseball.

He pitched for the Lake Elsinore Storm and the San Antonio Missions in 2017, posting an 11–7 record with a 2.20 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

He was the first pitcher selected in the 2016 draft to reach the major leagues and second overall behind Austin Hays.

On March 30, 2018, he made his Padres debut, throwing 42 innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out one.

The San Diego Padres traded Joey Lucchesi to the New York Mets on January 19, 2021, in a three-team deal. A “significant” tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his left elbow was discovered on June 21.

It was stated on July 20th that Tommy John’s surgery will conclude his season in 2021. With a 1-4 record and a 4.46 ERA in 11 games, he’d struck out 41 batters in 38.1 innings of work.
