Steven Matz, born Steven Jakob Matz plays professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He plays as a pitcher for the team and earns an annual salary of $11 million from the Cardinals.

Steven was born on May 29, 1991, in Stony Brook, New York in the USA. He played high school baseball at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York. He completed high school in 2009 and was drafted by the New York Mets in the 2nd round of the 2009 MLB draft. He was paid a signing bonus of $895,000.

He made his professional debut in 2012 after the Mets assigned him to play for the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie-level Appalachian League. He was also made to play for the Savannah Sand Gnats of the Class A South Atlantic League that same year. The Mets added him to their 40-man roster in November 2013 as a way to protect him from being selected in the Rule 5 draft.
