Paul Sterling DeJong (born August 2, 1993) is a Major League Baseball shortstop who currently plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. On May 28, 2017, he made his big league debut.
DeJong, a native of Orlando, Florida, attended Illinois State University and played baseball there. The Cardinals drafted him in the fourth round of the 2015 MLB draft. With 25 home runs in his debut season, he topped all National League (NL) shortstops.
Matthew, DeJong’s younger brother, and Emma, DeJong’s younger sister, are his siblings.
After the 2017 season, DeJong worked as a laboratory assistant at Lawrence Rocks, where he studied the effects of different temperatures on the flight of the baseball route.
At the 2017 winter meetings, DeJong and Rocks appeared together on MLB Now. Burton Rocks, DeJong’s first big league contract negotiator, is the son of Lawrence Rocks.
