On March 29, 1997, Josh Sweat, a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, was born. He played collegiate football at Florida State. At Oscar F. Smith High School, Sweat, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, participated on Andrew Brown’s team.

In his junior year, he had 94 tackles, which helped Oscar Smith go undefeated all the way to the 2013 VHSL 6A state championship game before Centreville High School upset them 35-6.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Sweat in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (130th overall). In exchange for sending Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the Eagles received the 130th overall pick. On December 11, 2018, he was placed on injured reserve.



Sweat participated in 14 games in 2020, including three starts. He accumulated six sacks, 38 tackles, and three forced fumbles.

Sweat and the Philadelphia Eagles came to an agreement on a three-year, $40 million extension on September 18, 2021. A few months later, he was selected for his first Pro Bowl, taking the place of Nick Bosa, who was injured and unable to play.

Sweat was unable to participate in the Eagles’ Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of emergency surgery to treat a “life-threatening” disease.

It was reported that Josh Sweat had been having stomach problems, according to earlier this week’s statement from Sweat’s coach Nick Sirianni.

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles did not specify the reason for Sweat’s treatment but did state that it was not due to an appendix rupture. Sweat has been officially declared inactive.
