DeGrom started his baseball career as a shortstop before switching to a pitcher during his junior year at Stetson.



He was drafted in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Mets, and he made his MLB debut on May 15, 2014.

DeGrom was named the National League’s (NL) Rookie of the Month twice, as well as the NL Rookie of the Year, during that season.

In 2013, he started the season with St. Lucie, but owing to injuries to Binghamton’s Luis Mateo and Cory Mazzoni, he was promoted to the Class AA Eastern League’s Binghamton Mets after two starts.

In June, after the Mets promoted Zack Wheeler and Carlos Torres to the major leagues and traded Collin McHugh, he was promoted to the Class AAA Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League.

Due to a fractured finger sustained during the offseason that changed the way he threw the ball, he had a cumulative 4.51 ERA for the season.
