Calhoun was traded to the Texas Rangers on July 31, 2017, along with minor leaguers A. J. Alexy and Brendon Davis, for Yu Darvish.

On September 12, 2017, he got promoted to the top leagues for the first time. In 13 games in 2017, Calhoun hit .265/.324/.353/.677 with a home run and four RBI.

Calhoun hit .222/.269/.333/.602 in 35 major league games last season, including two home runs and 11 RBI. He hit .294/.351/.431/.782 with 9 home runs and 47 RBI in 108 games with the Triple-A Round Rock Express

To begin the season, Calhoun was optioned to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He was recalled on May 15 to replace the injured Elvis Andrus, and he made his season debut the next day.

On May 22, he was sent on the 10-day IL with a strained left quad, despite hitting .435/.458/.739/1.197.

On June 17, he was resurrected from the IL, but on July 16, he was optioned back to Triple-A Nashville after hitting .225/.267/.408/.675 in his second stay to make room on the roster for All-Star OF/DH Hunter Pence.

He was recalled on July 25 to replace Joey Gallo, who was injured, and he would stay with the Rangers for the rest of the season.

Calhoun batted .269/.323/.524/.848 in 83 games for the 2019 season, with 21 home runs and 48 RBI.

Calhoun was hit in the face by a 95 MPH fastball by Julio Uras during a spring training game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 8, 2020.

Calhoun’s jaw was cracked and displaced as a result of the incident. The next day, he had surgery. Calhoun hit.190 in 29 games, with one home run and 13 RBI.
