In July 2016, Herrera signed an international free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Herrera debuted professionally in 2017, hitting.335 with one home run and 27 RBIs in 49 games with the Rookie League Dominican Summer League Cardinals.



He spent most of 2018 with the Rookie League Gulf Coast Cardinals, as well as two games with the Springfield Cardinals of the Class AA Texas League at the end of the year.

Herrera batted.336 with one home run and 25 RBIs in thirty games with both clubs.

Herrera began the 2019 season with the Peoria Chiefs of the Class A Midwest League before being promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in July.

He hit.284/.374/.405 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs in 87 games between the two organizations. After the season, he was chosen to play for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League, where he was awarded an All-Star.


Herrera was invited to spring training as a non-roster invitee in 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the minor league season was canceled in 2020, and he did not play in any minor league games.

The Cardinals signed Herrera to a 40-man roster after the 2020 season. Herrea played most of the 2021 season with Springfield (now in the Double-A Central), hitting.231/.346/.408 with 17 home runs and 63

RBIs in 98 games. He finished the season with the Triple-A East’s Memphis Redbirds, appearing in one game.
