Tylor Megill’s alma mater was Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California. After going undrafted in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, he attended Loyola Marymount University and played college baseball.

As a freshman in 2015, he pitched 57 innings and went 6-3 with a 3.95 ERA. Following that season, he transferred to Cypress College, where he finished 11-3 with a 3.72 ERA in 17 games (16 starts).

He transferred again after the season, this time to the University of Arizona. In 2017, his junior year, he threw to a 2-3 record with a 5.55 ERA in 35+23 innings of relief.

As a senior in 2018, he was 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA in 32+13 innings pitched, striking out 38 batters and recording six saves. Following the season, he was drafted in the eighth round by the New York Mets in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.

Megill was named to the 40-man roster and promoted to the main leagues for the first time on June 23, 2021. On that day, he made his major league debut against the Atlanta Braves, pitching 413 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs (one home run allowed), two walks, and four strikeouts on 92 pitches.

He was given a no-decision as the Mets won the game 7–3. Megill earned his first big league victory on July 23rd, tossing six scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays.
