Where Is Prince Emili From?

Several athletes participated in the Buffalo Bills’ rookie minicamp last weekend as tryouts. Prince Emili, a defensive tackle, was one of those guys who demonstrated enough throughout the sessions to be added to the Bills’ roster.

During his four seasons with Penn University, Prince Emili participated in 37 games and recorded 162 total tackles, 30.5 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, three passes deflected, and one forced fumble. 9.5 sacks and 27 tackles for a loss over the last two seasons account for the majority of these stats.

Emili does fit what the Buffalo Bills are looking for at the three positions, even though Tony Pauline’s overall assessment of him wasn’t particularly positive. Similar to Ed Oliver, he is a defensive lineman who is undersized for the position but isn’t quick enough to create plays on the opposing side of the line of scrimmage.

It’s not uncommon for one or two players to emerge as off-season surprises, either earning a spot on the 53-man roster or beginning the season on the practice squad before earning a promotion to the main roster. The Bills have the top four depth spot players locked in, but they also value depth at the position, so Prince Emili may be that guy this season.

Similar to how Justin Zimmer has occasionally done over the past few seasons, Emili may be the player who is the fifth option on the depth chart at the position that rotates frequently during the course of a game.
