When Chapman signed with the Reds on August 31, 2010, he was eligible for the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

As a reliever, he went the distance against the Brewers, striking out one and striking out one while pitching at 102 mph on the gun.

The Reds scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to defeat the Brewers, 6-1, the next day when he threw a perfect inning of relief.

On the 24th of September, he became the first major league pitcher to throw at 105 mph. A 2.03 earned run average and 19 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings against only 9 hits helped him finish the season with a 2-2 record in the majors.

His two appearances in the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies resulted in a loss, with him allowing three unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Francisco Cordero’s primary set-up man in the Reds’ bullpen in 2011 was Chapman. Over the course of 16 games, he walked 20 times and struck out 15 times in 13 innings, producing a 6.92 earned run average.

His left shoulder was inflamed and he was put on the disabled list on May 16. As of the season’s final week, his ERA had dropped to an impressive 3.60.

He returned to the mound on June 25th. At the end of the season, he had a 4-1 record, a save and had only given up 24 hits in 50 innings, although he had walked 41 batters.

In his debut season, he had 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings average, which is exactly the same as his 71 strikeouts that year.
