Who Is Miles Mikolas?

Miles Tice Mikolas is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in the United States.

He formerly played in MLB for the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers, as well as in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Yomiuri Giants.

In 2006, Mikolas pitched for Jupiter Community High School in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he graduated.

He then went on to play college baseball with the Nova Southeastern Sharks at Nova Southeastern University. In 11 starts during his junior year, he went 7–2 with a 2.06 ERA.

Mikolas was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres.

In 60 games with the Class-A Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2010, Mikolas went 6–3 with 13 saves (second in the Midwest League) and a 2.20 earned run average (ERA) (leading the league).

He was awarded an All-Star in the Midwest League.

He began 2011 with the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm and was promoted to the Double-A San Antonio Missions on July 4 after going 3–0 with 12 saves (4th in the California League) and a 1.13 ERA in 34 games.

Mikolas finished 2011 as a reliever for the Missions, going 1–0 with nine saves and a 1.67 ERA in 28 games.

In 2012, Mikolas was invited to spring training as a non-roster player. Later in the spring, he was transferred to a minor league camp and began the season with San Antonio.

On May 5, 2012, Mikolas was promoted from Double-A San Antonio to the majors for the first time. He made his debut against his hometown team, the Miami Marlins, at Petco Park.

Giancarlo Stanton, the first batter he faced, hit a home run. After making 13 appearances and giving five earned runs in 132/3 innings, Mikolas was sent down to the Triple-A Tucson Padres on June 5.

On July 5, he was recalled and appeared in two more games before being optioned down to Triple-A.

On August 5, he was recalled from Tucson once more, and he stayed with the big league team for the rest of the season. Mikolas was 2–1 with a 3.62 ERA and 23 strikeouts to 15 walks in 321/3 innings this season.
