How Much Does Josh Hader Make?

Josh Hader makes an annual average salary of $11,000,000.

By now, Josh Hader understands that baseball is a business. This year, business and pitching appeared to be more intertwined than ever before.

Hader was one of nine Brewers players who took care of business ahead of time, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract worth $11 million, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Players and teams have until Tuesday to negotiate an agreement or formally swap figures, which was a formality for some clubs in some seasons but not for Milwaukee in 2022.

The Brewers have ten core players available for arbitration, including Hader, 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, two-time Opening Day starter Brandon Woodruff, and Willy Adames, last year’s club MVP.

In a single, hectic day, all of those players, as well as nine of the ten overall, reached an agreement. Right-hander Adrian Houser, the 10th batter, has agreed to terms with the team and will have an arbitration hearing in April or May.

Hader said last week, “Obviously, the business side is a lot different.” “You don’t want to take too much attention away from baseball, but at the end of the day, it’s part of baseball.”

Hader’s $11 million salary was the highest among the Brewers’ newcomers; he will have one more year of club control following this season before becoming a free agent.

Hader expressed his dissatisfaction with what he sees as an outmoded system that relies on statistics like saves when he went all the way to a hearing in 2020, where arbitrators concluded his remuneration should be $4.1 million instead of the $6.4 million he asked.

Hearings will take place during the season, adding to the drama, as the procedure was delayed during the lockout.
