Edmundo Sosa Career

As an international free agent, Sosa agreed to terms with the St. Louis Cardinals, who signed him in July 2012.

A 2013 Dominican Summer League Cardinals rookie, he batted.314 with three home runs and 27 RBIs in 47 games in his first professional season.

Both Gulf Coast Cardinals and State College Spikes used him in 2014 and 2015, with the latter team hitting a combined .300/.369/.485 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs in 49 games, and he also played with the Johnson City Cardinals in 2015, scorching a stout .300/.373/.485.

To qualify for the 2017 World Baseball Classic, Sosa participated for Panama’s national baseball team in 2016.

Sosa played for both the Peoria Chiefs and the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2016, and he concluded the year with a .270 batting average, three home runs, and 34 RBIs in 97 total games.

Cardinals bolstered their 40-man roster by signing him at the end of the year. Sosa’s .288 batting average, one home run, and 16 RBIs in 58 games in 2017 were the result of an injury-shortened season.

The Cardinals later sent Sosa to the Arizona Fall League’s Surprise Saguaros after the season ended (AFL). At .305 with seven RBIs, Sosa had an OPS of .715 in 17 AFL appearances.

With the Springfield Cardinals, he was promoted to the Memphis Redbirds at the beginning of the year. He had a .270 batting average, 12 home runs, and 59 RBIs in 123 games between the two teams.
