Ronald was born to Ronald Acuna Sr and Leonelis Blanco on December 18, 1997, in La Guaira, Venezuela. In 2014, he signed with the Atlanta Braves as an international free agent and received $100,000 as a signing bonus. He made his professional debut the following year with the Gulf Coast Braves and was later promoted to the Danville Braves that same season.

He spent his 2016 minor season playing for both the Gulf Coast Braves and Rome Braves. For 2017, he started the year with the Florida Fire Frogs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League and was later promoted to the Mississippi Braves of the Class AA Southern League.

In July of that same year, Ronald was named to the All-Star Futures Game roster where he played the whole game. When the season was over, the Braves invited him to join the Arizona Fall League and was assigned to play with the Peoria Javelinas.

The Braves promoted him to the major leagues for the first time in April 2018 where he made his MLB debut that same day. In May 2021, he was named National League Player of the Month for April.
