José Alejandro Butto (born March 19, 1998) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB).



Butto signed a contract with the New York Mets as an international free agent in June of this year. He was added to the Mets’ 40-man roster after the 2021 season.

Jose Butto, a 19-year-old Venezuelan born in Cumana, was signed by the Mets in June 2017 for $5,000, just before the end of the 2016-2017 international free agent signing period and the start of the 2017-2018 campaign.



He made his professional debut with the DSL Mets that year, pitching 50.0 innings with a 1.44 ERA, allowing 48 hits, 9 walks, and 41 strikeouts. When the season began in 2018, he was sent to the Kingsport Mets, where he pitched 32.2 innings in six starts with a 1.93 ERA.

He was promoted to the Brooklyn Cyclones at the end of July, where he stayed for the remainder of the season. At 28.0 innings pitched in Coney Island, he had a 6.11 ERA, allowing 31 hits, 11 walks, and 24 strikeouts.

In 2019, he was promoted to the Columbia Fireflies and lasted the full season with them, pitching 112.0 innings with a 3.62 ERA, allowing 100 hits, 31 walks, and 109 strikeouts.
