Doolittle was selected 41st overall in the 2007 amateur draft by the Oakland Athletics. Scout Neil Avent signed him for $742,500 and he began his professional career the following summer.

 

On June 20th, Doolittle made his professional debut with the Vancouver Canadians, going 3 for 5 with a double and a run in a game against the Tri-City Dust Devils.

Doolittle divided 2008 between the Stockton Ports and the Midland RockHounds, batting.286/.358/.495 with 22 home runs.



Doolittle moved to AAA with the Sacramento River Cats in 2009, but tendinitis in both knees interrupted his season after 28 games.

He eventually underwent surgery on his left knee, and he missed the next two seasons, save for one game as a pitcher with the AZL Athletics in 2011.

Sean shot through the A’s system at breakneck speed after returning to health in 2012. He is now a full-time bullpen pitcher.

He started the season with the California League’s Stockton, where he struck out 21 batters in 10 1/3 innings and had an ERA of 0.87 in six games.

He was promoted to AA Midland right away, where he pitched 11 innings, allowing only two hits, four walks, and 19 strikeouts.

He was promoted to AAA Sacramento after 8 games at AA, where he continued to retire nearly every batter he faced, allowing only one hit and one walk in 3 2/3 innings while striking out eight batters.

He pitched 26 innings in the minors over two seasons, with an ERA of 1.04, 8 hits allowed, 8 walks, and a mind-boggling 50 strikeouts.
