Steven Jakob Matz is one of the professional baseball pitchers with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was born to Ron and Lori Matz on May 29, 1991, in Stony Brook, New York in the USA.

Steven played baseball in the Three Village Little League when he was 8 years old. He started schooling at Nassakeag Elementary School in the Three Village Central School District. After, he enrolled at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York where he played the position of the first baseman for the school’s baseball team.

The New York Mets selected him after he completed high school in the second round of the 2009 MLB draft. That year, Steven happened to be the first player to be drafted directly out of Ward Melville High School. The Mets signed him with an $895,000 signing bonus.

Steven started his professional career in 2012 when he was assigned to play for the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie-level Appalachian League.
