Joseph Andrew Bart, born on December 15, 1996, is an American Major League Baseball catcher for the San Francisco Giants (MLB).



Bart was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets throughout his undergraduate career. He was selected by the Giants as the second overall choice in the 2018 MLB draft. In 2020, he made his MLB debut.

In Buford, Georgia, Bart attended Buford High School. In his freshman year, he was named the starting catcher for the school’s baseball team.



In his junior year, he had a.556 on-base percentage and a.859 slugging percentage, but he was tossed about by rival teams in his senior year, which hurt his performance.

Buford High School won the Georgia Class 4A State Championship in his senior year, winning 34-2 and placing eighth in the MaxPreps National Poll. Bart was drafted in the 27th round of the 2015 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, but he chose not to sign.

Bart got promoted to the main leagues on August 20. That night, he made his debut against the Los Angeles Angels, recording his first professional hit, a double off Julio Teherán.

Bart was only the third Giants player since at least 1901 to collect an extra-base hit in each of his first three professional games. He concluded the season with a.233/.288/.320 slash line in 33 games.
