Junior Fernández, born Junior Fabio Fernández is a Dominican professional baseball player known to play as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team of the Major League Baseball(MLB). Junior was born on March 2, 1997, in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
He grew up in the Dominican Republic where he had his non-professional baseball career before he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent in July 2014. That same year, the Cardinals assigned him to play with the Dominican Summer League Cardinals to make his professional debut.
Junior spent the whole of the 2015 season with the Gulf Coast Cardinals. He began the 2016 minor league season with the Peoria Chiefs and was later promoted to play for the Palm Beach Cardinals in July. During the 2017 season, he was named a Florida State League All-Star.
In 2018, he was with the Palm Beach Cardinals at the beginning of the season and was promoted later to the Springfield Cardinals the season. For the 2019 season, he earned two promotions. The first was for him to play with the Springfields in May and then he was promoted to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds in June.
The Cardinals selected his contract and promoted him to the major leagues in August 2019. He made his MLB debut that same month when the Cardinals played versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
