He agreed to the selection and signed with the Mariners forgoing his initial plan to play college baseball at Appalachian State University. After signing with the Mariners, he made his professional debut playing with the Arizona League Mariners.

The Mariners promoted him in July 2016 to play for the Bakersfield Blaze. After the 2016 season, he was traded by the Mariners to the New York Yankees. The Yankees made him begin the 2017 season with the Tampa Yankees after which he was promoted to the Trenton Thunder in late June that year.

In July 2017, the Yankees traded him to the Minnesota Twins where he made his MLB debut for the Twins on June 5, 2018. Zack signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants team in February 2021.
