From 1920 through 1953, Sportsman’s Park was the home of both the St. Louis Browns of the American League and the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League. The Browns relocated to Baltimore and were renamed the Orioles.

It was located at 2911 North Grand Boulevard if you were driving. Professional football was also played at the ballpark, which was then known as Busch Stadium but was still frequently referred to as Sportsman’s Park.

In 1923, it was the home of St. Louis’ inaugural NFL franchise, the All-Stars, and it later played host to the National Football League’s St. Louis Cardinals from 1960 to 1965 (when the team relocated from Chicago), before Busch Memorial Stadium opened its doors in 1966.

The Sportsman’s Park location has hosted baseball games since 1867. August Solari bought the land in 1866 and began holding games there the following year. From 1875 to 1877, it was the home of the St. Louis Brown Stockings in the National Association and the National League.

When did the Cardinals leave Sportsman’s Park?

The Cardinals left Sportsman’s park on May 8, 1966, after playing their final game. A few days later, the St. Louis Cardinals relocated to the city’s brand-spanking-new Busch Stadium. Almost immediately after that, Sportsman’s Park was razed to the ground.
