Cartier Niko Goodrum is an American professional baseball utility player who currently plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. Goodrum was born on February 28, 1992.
His past teams in Major League Baseball were the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers. During his tenure in the major leagues, Goodrum has played every fielding position with the exception of pitcher and catcher.
During the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, the Minnesota Twins picked Goodrum in the second round, 71st overall. That was their first pick.
Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Georgia, is where Goodrum received his secondary education. After signing the contract and being awarded a signing bonus of $514,800, he made his first appearance in a professional game with the Gulf Coast Twins, who compete in the Rookie-level of the Gulf Coast League.
Goodrum was a member of the Fort Myers Miracle, a team that competed in the Class A-Advanced division of the Florida State League in 2014.
In November 2017, Goodrum signed a minor league contract with the Tigers. He’s on the Tigers’ 25-man opening day roster for 2018. Goodrum hit his first big league home run on April 5, 2018, off Joakim Soria.
He blasted two homers and drove in five in a 6–3 Tigers triumph against the Indians on May 14. He was voted 2018 Tigers Rookie of the Year by Detroit sports media.
The Tigers and Goodrum avoided arbitration by signing a $2.1 million one-year deal in January 2021.
