Miguel Amaya Age: How Old Is Miguel Amaya?

How Old Is Miguel Amaya?

Miguel Amaya was born on March 9, 1999. Amaya is 23 years old.

The news that Cubs prospect Miguel Amaya would require Tommy John surgery to rehabilitate the throwing elbow that shut him down twice during the 2021 minor-league season has put a damper on the team’s catching aspirations for 2022.

Since his last two seasons were cut short by injuries and a postponement of the 2020 minor-league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it wasn’t believed that Amaya would be ready to make his major-league debut until the following season, according to Baseball America.

The Cubs’ transition season in 2022, which will also be the final year the team has control over All-Star catcher Willson Contreras, is a good time for him to make his debut, given his recent progress.

Amaya may have made his major-league debut in 2021 if he had stayed healthy, as he was on the Cubs’ 40-man roster at the time and the team was forced to utilize a record-breaking nine catchers that season.

This year’s All-Star Futures Game performer, Amaya, will have surgery after Thanksgiving. It’s unclear when he’ll be back to full health.

This season, he sat out all but 23 games with Tennessee’s Double-A affiliate. On June 3, he had his final game.

The Cubs considered a few at-bats in winter ball a possibility by early September after he made progress in his rehabilitation over the following three months.
