Rayshad Nichols is the son of Raymond and Shelita Nichols. Nichols has played defensive end, defensive tackle, and fullback for L.W. Higgins High School, where he started all three of his seasons.

He was chosen for inclusion on the all-district first team not once, but twice. As a senior, Nichols recorded a total of 54 tackles, including 35 solo stops, as well as 8.0 tackles for loss.

During his junior season, he recorded a total of 70 tackles, including 35 solo stops, as well as 7.0 tackles for loss. Craig Laborde was Nichols’s coach throughout their time at Lumberjack.

In addition, he earned two more varsity letters in basketball and four more in baseball, where he played both first and third base. His total number of varsity letters was nine.

Nichols is just one of four defensive players on SFA’s roster to start every game in the season, and only one of two defensive front-line players to do so.

During the course of the year, he had a total of 36 tackles, including 11 solo stops. Nichols tied for the second-most tackles for loss on the team with 7.5 for a loss of 21 yards.  

In addition to that, he recorded a sack for a loss of six yards, tied for the second-most quarterback hurries among all Lumberjacks with five, and led the team with two fumble recoveries.
