Casey Joseph Toohill played college football at Stanford before joining the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Three-star recruit Toohill rejected football offers from schools including Boston College, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Washington State in favour of Stanford. Toohill, a senior at Stanford in his fifth year, started each of his 12 games.
He earned second-team All-Pac-12 honours for his 60 stops, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 8 sacks. Over the course of his career, he made 124 tackles (21.5 for loss), 14 sacks, and one interception. At the 2020 NFL Combine, Toohill ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds.
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toohill in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 233rd overall. On October 13, 2020, the Eagles released him.
The day after the Eagles released Toohill, the Washington Football Team claimed him off waivers. Toohill’s first career sack of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came in Week 6 of the 2021 campaign.
In Week 11’s game against the Carolina Panthers, he started in place of Chase Young, who the team had placed on injured reserve. He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on December 11, 2021, and had to miss the Week 14 game against the Dallas Cowboys before being activated again a week later.

Toohill’s potential return against the Lions should be questioned given his apparent head injury. In Week 1, the 2020 seventh-round pick made one tackle while participating in 26 of his total 34 defensive snaps.
